Reduce fat and cholesterol intake! Foods high in cholesterol include
egg yolks, whole milk dairy products, and organ meats such as liver.
Up your intake of complex carbohydrates, such as spaghetti, beans, peas,
potatoes and whole grain bread. Not only are these foods low in
cholesterol and fat, but many also contain fiber which has been shown to be
vital in preventing cancer in the digestive tract.
Be aware of how much salt (sodium) you are ingesting. Moderation is
the key word (as it is in so many preventive health techniques).
If you must, drink alcohol in moderation.
Emphasize fish, fruit and vegetables (especially vitamin A and C rich
vegetables and fruits, such as carrots, spinach, peaches and oranges and
cruciferous vegetables, such as cabbage, broccoli and brussel sprouts) in your
diet so you get the proper amount of protein, vitamins and minerals without the
fat that necessarily accompanies these critical elements when they are ingested
in the form of meat.
